New threats identified in the first two months of 2018 indicate a similar pace of development. In 2017 alone, Mac threats increased by more than 270 percent.
Simply put - the program is GREAT at detecting and removing threats, however, it has become a resource hog to the point where the system becomes crippled when running the premium version.Based on Malwarebytes' telemetry, malware targeting Mac operating systems has more than doubled from 2016 to 2017.
Because of this, I have stopped recommending it. I found the only way to stop this was to basically shut it down entirely and disable the services, using it as an on-demand scanner only. When using the realtime scanner aspect of the premium version, usage would hover around 200MB for a while but eventually, it would balloon out of control to the point where it would consistently use over 700MB at a time until you closed it or rebooted, which would restart the cycle. Even using the program in freeware mode without the realtime scanner active, it was still commonplace for me to see active memory usage exceed 500MB routinely. While the program is still great at removing malware, the realtime aspect of the program is plagued by performance issues. There's no problem having to, if they don't conflict with each other.Ĭons: I was a HUGE fine of prior versions of this software, but the newer version 3 has seen my faith shaken. So if Malwarebytes doesn't catch something, the antiviral program will or vice versa. So I suppose here I have two levels of security, and two is better than one. So I'm a bit confused about that, but I have both an antiviral program and Malwarebytes running. But in reading reports and reviews from magazines and such, they often say that it is not a virus cleaner and you still need an antiviral program. Malwarebytes itself like advertises itself as both being a virus, antiviral program, and a malware, anti-malware program. There's a few caveats, which I've still don't quite understand. Fortunately, I never have virtually have no malware at all. If malware does occur, you get a pop-up and it tells you that there is some malware. But generally, it works in the background and you're not really conscious of it. And so, you have to white go to the trouble of white listing those sites. It does have some problems in the sense that it flags occasionally good sites as being a suspect or having malware in them when I know in fact they don't. So most of the time, I'm really, I'm not even conscious of it, which is I suppose the way it's supposed to be in a way. So I'm have a lifetime subscription based on, because I suppose I got in on the ground floor and I appreciate that from them. They've since changed their pricing policy, but they've been really nice and grandfathered me in. It was about $25 for a lifetime purchase. And the name Malwarebytes came up, so I purchased it. This was not really viruses, but malware. And so, I went on the web and started looking at programs that could clean that kind of malware. I chose Malwarebytes when I think they first began as a company and I had a problem with the computer that got really infected with malware. And technically, they're supposed to be compatible if you use a certain switch in Malwarebytes, which I did.

So right now, what I use is Microsoft Defender which comes with Windows 10 and I use Malwarebytes. And it seemed to be using a whole lot of memory and generally interfering with the functioning of the computer.
Previously, I used McAfee and I found it was giving me a whole lot of false positives for viruses, et cetera. I give Malwarebytes a four out of five rating. I'm a freelance script writer in the film and television industry.
